German Debt For Japanese Murder

Article ImageIf you're into manga, then you've undoubtedly heard of Hiroaki Samura. The name should instantly register in your brain. And most likely, the image of a Horse's head comes to mind, as Samura is the Japanese writer/illustrator who is also the creator of Blade of the Immortal, which has been published by Dark Horse Comics since the 1990s.

But one never likes to put all his eggs in one basket, and thus Samura went on to create another action series...but this one was a little different. Die Wergelder Volume 1 GN (SEP151466) is about three kickass ladies fighting for what they’re owed. The title may make some of you tilt your head to one side as it sounds...German. The answer is, yes.  It is. The word "weregeld" refers to a price that is traditionally paid by a murderer or thief to a victim's family to compensate them for a loss. And in this exquisitely drawn tale of vengeance, blood, and sex, the body count is quite high, and thus the tab is likewise through the roof.

So imagine the carnage that will ensue when a yakuza gang discovers a large amount of money is missing. Every action has a consequence. And this kind of consequence you can bet will result in many severed limbs.

Presented in a 400-page 2-in-1 edition, look for Die Wergelder Volume 1 GN (SEP151466) from Kodansha Comics in the September PREVIEWS catalog!
