Margaret Atwood Purrs Over Angel Catbird for Dark Horse Comics

It’s funny how circumstances change over time. Ask Margaret Atwood, who took time from her literary career in novels to re-dedicate herself to an art form that she has always held dear to her heart.

In a PREVIEWSworld Exclusive interview that was conducted at the Dark Horse Comics booth for this year’s San Diego Comic Con, the writer sits alongside artist Johnnie Christmas on an ivory-colored couch to explain that their new project, Angel Catbird Volume 1 HC (MAY160020), is unique, fun, and full of puns.

“I started with drawing comics when I was a very, very young person,” the writer offers. “Only later did I become a novelist.”

Over the course of three all-ages graphic novels, the book tells the story of an unusual superhero that is mutated when his DNA is merged with that of a cat and an owl. The project is being published in tandem with Keep Cats Safe and Save Bird Lives, an initiative led by Nature Canada, the oldest conservation charity in the country.
