The Black Lanterns rose from the dead and threatened to consume the DC Universe in DC Comics' best-selling Blackest Night mini-series, and DC Direct's recreation of characters from the series, including Black Lantern Batman and Black Lantern Hawkman, for the Blackest Night Series 5 Action Figures gave the manufacturer the best-selling Toys product to comics specialty shops in the month of August.
In total, DC Direct had six of the top ten best-selling Toys products for the month, including the Blackest Night Power Ring Spectrum Set at #2, the Batman Reborn Series 1 Action Figures at #3, and the Cover Girls of the DCU: Power Girl Statue (based on the artwork of Adam Hughes at #9.
Kotobukiya took the other four spots in the top ten, led by the Marvel Comics Presents: Dark Phoenix Bishoujo Statue at #4, the latest in Kotobukiya's popular line of statues designed by Shunya Yamashita that give Marvel Comics' heroines an anime-style makeover.

How does Diamond calculate the charts? It all starts at the comic book shop.
Data for Diamond’s sales charts — which include the monthly market shares and all top product charts — are compiled by Diamond Comic Distributors from a universe of over 3,500 accounts, comprised of comic book specialty shops and other merchant stores and buyers. The shops are primarily located in North America, with a percentage of sales also to international stores and buyers located throughout the world. The account base includes not only brick-and-mortar comic book specialty shops, but also Internet stores, chain stores, and other specialty stores.
Unit and retail dollar sales are calculated based upon orders invoiced and shipped to Diamond accounts during any given month, which comprises initial pre-orders, advance reorders, and reorders, minus any copies that are received back from a title marked as returnable.
